MEET THE YELLOW BIKES WRANGLER
With the
addition of Christopher Rowe as the Bike Wrangler, Rowe will
literally be keeping the wheels rolling for the Yellow Bike program.
Rowe, a UK student, recently jumped on board to watch over the program -
rounding up bikes taken out of the downtown area and spotting those that
are in need of repair. He also will be keeping record of where the
bikes are typically showing up so he can assess if new neighborhoods
should be added into the Yellow Bike zone. In the future, Rowe hopes
that fewer yellow bikes will wander outside of the zone and he can spend
more time with on-the-spot maintenance work. "Going forward, I
hope to spend most of my time riding on one of my bikes throughout
downtown, airing-up tires, making sure chains are lubed and locks are in
good shape," he said.
Rowe
is a strong supporter of Mayor Jim Newberry's campaign to make Lexington
the most bike-friendly city in the Commonwealth. As the Bike
Wrangler, Rowe will now be an active contributor to this campaign.
When asked about his new position Rowe said, "I'm delighted to be working for the DLC's Yellow Bike Program. It combines my enthusiasm for bicycling with my commitment to the future of Downtown as a place to live, work, shop and play."
